There are many types of brain injuries, some may have been caused since birth (Acquired Brain Injury) others caused by a trauma to the head (Traumatic Brain Injury). Common causes of an ABI can include the mother suffering from a fall, a road accident, a tumour or stroke, among other incidents. A TBI can be caused by a tumour, stroke, brain haemorrhage or encephalitis (brain inflammation), as well as road traffic accidents, assaults and falls. A brain injury does not just affect an individual, it can transform the lives of entire families, leaving them to cope with significant changes. Even minor brain injuries can have a major impact on a person’s personality and functional and cognitive abilities. The care Baxter’s provide can involve support with physical, cognitive and emotional needs.

At Baxter Life Care we believe that communication is key. Sharing feelings helps people to cope with the situation and that is why BLC involves whole families in the assessment and care planning for people with Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injuries. We will work closely with you, those close to you and other healthcare professionals as required, to develop a care and support plan specific to your needs, to promote your individual wellbeing and assist you with building or maintaining interests and your social life. We can offer help with personal care, feeding, hoisting and medication, as well as less clinical support by providing assistance to reintroduce the client back into the community.
